Are you ready to see the world through my eyes?
Moon&Balloon, my first Dramatic Narrative film which won Honorable Mention in Northwest High School Film Festival.
My main purpose in dedicating myself to filmmaking is not because of money or fame. I feel
fortunate because I have found something to which I can devote all of my life. This is my way of
communicating my dreams effectively, since movies are a combination of all the arts and each aspect can
tell a story on it’s own. It’s a memory that can’t be distorted, and it’s my signature on the world. The
thought that I can’t know all the people on earth, especially those who need someone’s help with
motivation or encouragement, is deeply saddening to me. But I know that if I dedicate my time and
energy into my films, I can communicate with those I wouldn’t otherwise be able to. I want my works to
be the sign they were waiting for, and realize that they could do what they’ve been attempting to do all
along. One of my favorite writers, Carlos Ruiz Zafon once wrote “Books are mirrors: you only see in them
what you already have inside”, and I’m certain the same is true for film as well. There are a countless
amount of scenes in countless amounts of movies that have managed to change lives. Modern directors
fail to do this in my opinion, because they’re more focused on entertainment rather than message.
However, if you already have your audience's attention, shouldn’t you teach them a lesson while
you’re at it, or try and make a positive impact on their life?
That is why I write. I try to connect my soul and my mind, and to create a portrait of myself.
When I write a story, I like to think that the last words are what I’m trying to communicate to the world.
If you could say one thing to the world, what would it be? I’m not afraid to show people that the secret to fulfilling their dreams is just to fight for them, no matter who you are or whatever your situation.
Sincerely,
Jessica M. Acosta Frias.
